Buckhorn Ridge is my home in the Tennessee hills where I find peace and inspiration to create my unique fused glass designs. I describe my studio’s philosophy as an ever-changing journey. I use, create and experiment with different art elements to create interesting, fun and sometimes functional artwork. My inspiration for designs comes from the things I love – awesome miracles of nature, powerful works of art, colorful fabrics, vivid images, vibrant places… Fused glass can be subtle, elegant and often, in my artwork – bold in color, shape, texture and design. I am passionate about color and using it in glass to play off light elements. I create functional pieces like bowls, plates, and platters. I find it irresistible to design larger, one-of-a-kind art objects for walls or architectural installments. I want them to be worthy of a gallery but best enjoyed in everyday settings. Each year I do a limited number of multi-media pieces using glass, different metals and found objects.

My work continuously changes and matures as I discover new methods and skills. I use many traditional fused glass techniques but I love making things up as I go and in doing so, creating something fresh and original. Of course, this reckless abandon sometimes leads to disaster but more often then not it adds an interesting touch to my work. Working deep in glass, creating pieces I feel have more depth and texture, intrigues me. I delight in working with molten glass, manipulating it into striking designs. I also enjoy stacking individual pieces of glass together to craft out-of-the-ordinary designs I can use alone or in other pieces. I use iridescent and dichroic glass, frit, powder and paint to craft innovative and often complex designs. I sometimes incorporate gold, silver or platinum into some of my creations. I “have a thing about” weaving glass stringers to construct intricate patterns I can then use alone or in other work. For me, art is always about the experience, the surprise, the aha…never the destination… always the journey – that’s what makes life and art worthwhile!
